Entries for the next Forza 1* tournament to be held at the new Harlow Leisure Zone close on 13th January but you can get your entry in early so you don't forget over Xmas.

Xmas Events

We are planning two events over the Xmas period;

1. Xmas Drinks - Saturday 10th December, meet at Kings Arms /Hogs Head @ 8pm - speak to Michelle for more details.

2. Xmas Club Night fun tournament - please wear one item of Xmas fancy dress. Pairs to be drawn on the night, handicaps to be applied. Speak to Simon Bartlett for more information.

Results Page

I have updated the Results page so that Colchester Federation results will automatically be extracted from the league database. Captains can use this to make sure their results have been received and posted correctly by the league match secretary.

Chelmsford Junior 1* Tournament

There is a junior 1* tournament in Chelmsford on 20th November. This is an ideal opportunity for any of our junior players to get some competitive experience.

Entries are due in by 8th November - please download the form and post it to the event organisers as instructed on the entry form along with your payment.

Looking ahead junior players should aim to enter the Colchester 2* event on the 4th / 5th February 2012.

We have quite a lot of flexibility since we are entered into three totally separate competitions but we are aiming to give everyone as many matches as they want this season.

Colchester & East Essex Community Badminton Network

We have received some £500 from Badminton England to help start a beginners / intermediate level badminton night. This will make Stanway the hub club of a new Community Badminton Network covering Colchester and Tendring districts. Community Badminton Networks are a core part of Badminton England's strategy for increasing adult participations (see the regional development plan for the East of England).

The new sessions will run on a Monday night from 8pm - 10pm and will cost just £4 a person for each session. These sessions will be closely connected with the main club and should help get more people playing organised badminton with a view to increasing participation in the Colchester Federation leagues.

If you know anyone that would like to play badminton but isn't quite at league standard or isn't able to commit to the expense of joining the main club please recommend them to come along on a Monday evening.

Change of Night for Junior Badminton

Starting 12th September our junior club will run on a Monday evening from 6:30pm - 8pm. The change of night allows us to offer an extra 30 minutes every week and therefore makes us compliant with the conditions for Clubmark status. This will be an important step in the development of the club.

Start of New Season for Junior Club

Stanway Junior Club will start tomorrow evening, Thursday 8th September, with the session from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.

It would be appreciated if all parents could join us in the hall for 15 minutes to cover some administration points. We look forward to seeing you all.

UPDATE: following a meeting of parents on the 8th Sept it was decided to move to a Monday night starting from 12th September.

Launch of Ipswich Performance Centre

The latest badminton performance centre to open is based at the new "Suffolk One" sixth form college in Ipswich. The college is located right next to the A12 / A14 junction and the Performance Centre will serve North Essex as well as Suffolk, Norfolk and east Cambridge.

As part of the launch a meeting of interested parties has been organised for the 7th September from 7:30pm at Ipswich YMCA. There will also be open sessions of the Performance Centre; the first for 7-13 year olds on 13th September from 6-8pm and the second for 14-17 year olds on 20th September from 7-9pm.

Essex Performance Centres are based at Redbridge Sports Centre and Billaricay so this centre will be the nearest to Colchester. BADMINTON England has established a network of Performance Centres to provide advanced coaching and development for promising young players.

Essex Restricted 2011

The first major tournament of the year is the Essex Restricted, which will be held on the 1st and 2nd October 2011. Please see the Essex Badminton Assoc website for more details;

This year the tournament will be run at the new sports centre in Harlow.

Club Dates for 2011 / 12 Season

The club will start on Tuesday 6th September for the new season. Our league fixtures will be fixed at the Federation AGM on 30th August and Essex League the following week. At the AGM we agreed to minimise the number of matches to be played on Tuesdays and where possible play Ladies or Essex Combi matches on these nights to maximise the court time for club players.

First Club Night: 6th September
Last Club Night before Xmas: 20th December
First Club Night of 2012: 3rd January
Final Club Night: 29th March

Colchester 2* Tournament Results

The results from the recent Colchester 2* Junior Tournament have been posted to the Badminton Essex website;

Several Stanway members entered the tournament; the standard was quite tough but Georgia was the winner of the U13 Girls Doubles. Well done to everyone who entered and represented the club.

Colchester Open 2011

The 54th Colchester Open will be held over the weekend of 3rd / 4th April with Mixed and Veterans event scheduled for the Sunday.

Basildon 2* Tournament

Entry forms for the Basildon 2* Tournament are available for download.

The event will be held over the weekend of 26th / 27th March. Entries must be received by 19th March.

County Honours for Joe Skornia

Congratulations to Joe Skornia on his first cap for the County. He was selected for the Third XI last weekend and was unbeaten in the fixture against Lincolnshire that kept the team in prime position for promotion from division 4B.

Entry forms for the 2011 Colchester Junior tournament have been released and are available here. This a 2* competition open to anyone that has not represented their county team or received a BADMINTON England grading.

All Stanway Junior and Development squad members should enter this tournament.
